Degrowth in Augmented Reality

Degrowth is a movement focused on shifting away from economic growth as our key indicator of societal success. This movement is a rejection of capitalism—in particular capitalism’s need for ever-increasing economic growth and monetary accumulation. Degrowth challenges this dominant economic model which pursues growth at all costs—causing human exploitation and environmental destruction. A planned and equitable reduction in overall resource consumption and economic output is part of the vision set forth by degrowth.

Degrowth calls for advancing toward a system that prioritizes meeting the material needs of all people while lessening our collective impact on the planet. This includes restructuring the economy to revolve around human thriving and ecological balance. Degrowth focuses on the values of justice, conviviality, autonomy, inclusion, and solidarity. These values come hand-in-hand with the rejection of capitalist, authoritarian, patriarchal, and colonial paradigms. Degrowth centers the importance of care work, human relationships, and well-being for all.
